Jose’s opened in July 1983. Martha Perez was looking for a restaurant and a friend of hers told her about a place in Jackson. When Martha drove into Jackson for the first time, she knew that “this was it!”. Martha remembers: “ As soon as I started coming down Highway 49 and started coming down into Jackson, I fell in love with the town. I didn't even know that I was going to buy the restaurant, ...she just knew that this was it. "This is where we are going to be for the rest of our lives!" This is going to be where I raise my kids...I don't know there was something in the air, when you go down into Jackson, there is something that just grabs you.”

Martha opened Jose’s Mexican Restaurant with Jose Perez, and while they are no longer married, Jose is still the creator of the fabulous cuisine. Together they had many years of experience in the restaurant business and they had a very definite idea of what they wanted to offer.

Martha explains “We created a 'family' atmosphere with fresh cooked meals. We cook it when you order it. Our kitchen doesn't’t even have a microwave! The way that we cook and the spices that we use are made for the american "taste". It can be spicy or not. That's why people like it. The spice is just the right amount.”.

The atmosphere is carefully created to give the diner an intimate dining experience within festive surroundings, that make you feel as though you are visiting Mexico. Martha is devoted to making her customers feel welcome, “I want people to come in and feel like they are walking into their own home, and feel like their going to be taken care of like Mom and Dad would take care of you. From the moment you walk in the door there is someone to greet you with a smile. We know just about everybody in town. We already know what people like. Some of our customers don't even need to order because, we already know what they want. We've been here 20 years!”

July 23, 2003, will be the 20th year anniversary for Jose’s Mexican Restaurant!

Why do people keep coming back to Jose’s? Martha says “People say that they are happy with their meal and they never go hungry because there's always plenty on their plate and we have good prices.”

Many of Jose’s regular customers have commented that they have gone to Mexican Restaurants all over the country and Jose’s is the very best! When you come in and you feel the warmth, you feel....It's a Mexican restaurant with American style.

In addition to wonderful inside seating, Jose’s has outside seating in their spacious “Patio” area. Martha says “It can be raining and people will still want to sit outside.”

Martha is very devoted to her family. She adopted 5 kids to add to the 3 of her own. Jose, Martha, Rachel. And, had too many foster kids to count. "I had to open a restaurant just to feed them!".
